The Battle of Ventnor

Appears inURC7-I01 Reclaiming Ventnor

Battle that took place in early 597CY that pitted the forces of the County led by Countess Rachel and the Duergar army of clan Mithraldeath for the control of the city of Ventnor.

Tale from the Silver Swans

The Countess' forces engaged the Duergar army composed of monsters, humanoids, animals and Hextorites-backed bandits and mercenaries. A small group of elite adventurers were sent to spearhead the assault on Ventnor Castle. After a very tough battle that lead to the demise of an entire clan of goatfolk, the destruction of a blood golem of Hextor, the gates were stormed and String Lustoff was the first one through the gates of Ventnor. The battle for the walls was by then a foregone conclusion as the Mercenaries found themselves in a bad position and eventually either surrendered or fled.

The avant-garde led by Sir Dresham Underley KotS forced the Duergar to send out humanoids to engage the County's forces in the Copperwood. There too the County forces were victorious, sweeping the enemy from the woods and then joining the main body of the army for the assault on Ventnor.

The Hextorites and Nerullites in town were subsequently destroyed by the County forces, though more than a few managed to escape for parts unknown.

Following the triumphal victory of the County's forces over the Duergar's army in Ventnor, Countess Rachel, Sir Carrick Gellor (Commandant of The Citadel) and Sir Dresham Underley entered Ventnor to the applause of what little populace was left. Cries of "Long Live the Countess" and "Hail Rachel the First" were heard throughout the City.

The Countess and her command staff examined the walls and visited the Castle. She entered the Temple of Heironeous that was defiled and turned into a temple of the Herald of Hell. She offered everyone who had taken part in the campaign land to help re-settle Ventnor. She also re-appointed Sir Dresham Underley as Governor of Ventnor, a position he held until Ventnor was given over to the Duergar.
